Did you know you can get compensation for your cancelled or delayed flight? Don’t let airlines fly away with your money as well as your time.

How inconvenient is it when your flight is delayed or cancelled? Wasted time and money, not to mention uncomfortable hanging around at the airport!

Well don’t let your airline get away with it. You can in many cases now claim compensation of up to £515 for a delayed flight or your money back on a cancelled flight.

You may be able to claim on flights dating back to 2005 but there are some conditions:

- You must have departed from an EU airport (regardless of the airline)
- Or you were on an EU airline when the flight landed at an EU airport
- The delay or cancellation needs to be the airlines fault

If all these conditions apply to you, start by gathering all the documents relevant to the flight – tickets, boarding passes and any proof of the delay or cancellation.
Then step one is to write a letter complaining to the airline. If this doesn’t get you your compensation you can take the complaint further by writing to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or the European Consumer Centre (ECC) and then if all else fails to the small claims court.

If this is something you need help with a solicitor will be able to get things in motion for you at a small cost. Know your rights and get refunded.
